Mental Health & Safeguarding

Sawtry Walk To Run fully supports England Athletic’s #runandtalk initiative which is supported by mental health charity Mind. #runandtalk aims to improve mental health through running in England by:

*getting people talking about mental health, sharing their experiences and removing stigma

*providing support and guidance to raise awareness of mental health problems

*supporting people experiencing mental health problems to be physically active through running, whether that is to support them in starting, returning to or continuing to run.

We have 2 Mental Health Champions (one of which, Alex, is an EA Mental Health Ambassador) and they act as a point of contact for anyone experiencing mental health problems as well as encouraging and promoting conversation about mental health and actively promoting mental health and well being in our the community. In addition, they organise our #runandtalk events which bring people together and raise money for our local MIND.

Our Champions are Amanda & Alex (pictured above) and both have experience of a mental health problem, either personally or through work and family. They have an open and non-judgmental attitude and a positive, patient and supportive approach towards supporting people with mental health problems.

You can talk to either of them on one of the Club Nights or email them at which is monitored by both Champions. All discussions will be  professional, confidential and non-discriminatory.

In addition to our Mental Health Team, we have our Welfare Officers. Dan Keen & Caroline Tyrell Jones are our Welfare Officers and their role includes dealing with any safeguarding issues. If you have any issues or concerns you wish to discuss in regard to safeguarding please contact Caroline who will treat your matter in confidence and deal with your concerns in accordance with the procedures and manner as required by England Athletics who are our National Governing Body.
