Community Club of the Year
We were super pleased to collect the award for Community Club of the Year at the Living Sport awards on 22 November 2018. Our Tail Walker Sue was so overcome she could only cry and not speak when collected the gong!
Apparently there were 17 Cambridgeshire Clubs up for nomination and so to make the Top 3 was amazing but to walk away with the Title was incredible.
It has been a busy year. We only started out in October 2017 as a Run Together Club following a Facebook post by Nona (who had just completed her Leadership in Running Fitness) and a meeting of 5 ladies in our local pub. The first session attracted around 15 runners and grew over the year to the point where we were approved as an affiliated England Athletics Running Club in June 2018. We now use Run Together for our beginners programme and our newly set up walking programme – all other runs are organised by the Club. We now have 6 LIRFs, two of which are part way through the Coaching in Running Fitness programme and a trained guide runner. We have runners regularly competing at all distances up to marathon level with a few who have their eye on ultras. Our parkrun times range from 18 mins to 53 mins, our participants range from age 12 to 67 and so we really are a club who caters for all.
